Black Temple Attunement Guide: Medallion of Karabor Route

At a Glance

Black Temple has one of the longest attunement chains in TBC Classic. It spans Shadowmoon Valley quests, a dungeon (The Arcatraz), multiple raids (SSC, The Eye, Hyjal), and ends with a scripted event outside the temple.

Important Notes (Current Status):

• In Phase 4 and later, raid attunements were removed. You can enter Black Temple without the Medallion.
• Completing the full chain is still highly recommended for:
  • The Medallion of Karabor (excellent Shadow Resistance neck for Mother Shahraz + teleport upgrade later)
  • Progress toward the Hand of A’dal title (requires both Hyjal + Black Temple attunements)
  • Ashtongue Deathsworn reputation and vendor access
• On Anniversary realms, completed attunements are generally account-wide, but quest progress is character-specific until finished.

Raid Lead Snapshot

Use this as the fast route for moving raiders from Shadowmoon Valley setup through Akama, raid steps, Xi'ri, and the Medallion of Karabor turn-in.

Priority Checklist

• Make sure raiders finish the Shadowmoon Valley and Arcatraz portions before they need the SSC, The Eye, and Hyjal raid drops.
• Coordinate Seer Olum after Fathom-Lord Karathress, Al'ar with the Ashtongue Cowl, and Rage Winterchill so multiple guildmates progress together.
• Keep the Medallion of Karabor after completion; it remains useful for Mother Shahraz Shadow Resistance and later teleport utility.

Prerequisites

Before starting (or early in the chain):

• Level 70
• Declared for Aldor or Scryers
• Access to The Arcatraz (Tempest Keep dungeon)
• Attuned to (or able to enter) Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep: The Eye, and Hyjal Summit

You cannot fully finish Black Temple attunement until Hyjal is open, because one required item drops from Rage Winterchill.

Full Quest Chain Overview

Part 1: Shadowmoon Valley – Aldor / Scryers Opening

Starting NPCs:

• Aldor: Anchorite Ceyla at Altar of Sha’tar (/way 62.6, 28.4)
• Scryers: Arcanist Thelis at Sanctum of the Stars (/way 56.2, 59.6)

1. Tablets of Baa’ri Collect 12 Baa’ri Tablet Fragments from the ground and Ashtongue Workers at the Ruins of Baa’ri.
2. Oronu the Elder Kill Oronu the Elder and loot Orders from Akama.
3. The Ashtongue Corruptors Defeat the four corruptors and collect their medallion fragments:
   • Haalum (Air) – Netherwing Pass
   • Eykenen & Uylaru (Earth & Fire) – Fel Pits near Hand of Gul’dan
   • Lakaan (Water) – near Coilskar Point
4. The Warden’s Cage Enter the Warden’s Cage and speak with Sanoru.
5. Proof of Allegiance Kill Zandras outside the cage.
6. Akama Swim through the flooded underground passage to find Akama and speak with him.

Part 2: The Arcatraz & Ata’mal Terrace

1. Seer Udalo Enter The Arcatraz (Tempest Keep) and find Seer Udalo’s corpse. Interact with it.
2. A Mysterious Portent Return to Akama.
3. The Ata’mal Terrace (Group quest – 5 players recommended) Go to the Ata’mal Terrace in Shadowmoon Valley.
   • Kill the three elite channelers.
   • Defeat Shadowlord Deathwail.
   • Loot the Heart of Fury.
4. Akama’s Promise Return the Heart of Fury to Akama. He places it into the Medallion. Take the Medallion to A’dal in Shattrath City.

Part 3: Raid Steps (SSC → The Eye → Hyjal)

1. The Secret Compromised Enter Serpentshrine Cavern. After defeating Fathom-Lord Karathress, speak to Seer Olum (freed from the cage behind the boss) and accept the quest. Return to Akama.
2. Ruse of the Ashtongue Enter Tempest Keep: The Eye. Use the Ashtongue Cowl (quest item) and defeat Al’ar while the cowl is active. Return to Akama.
3. An Artifact From the Past Enter Hyjal Summit and defeat Rage Winterchill (first boss). Loot the Time-Phased Phylactery. Return to Akama.

Part 4: Final Steps Outside Black Temple

1. The Hostage Soul Speak with A’dal in Shattrath City.
2. Entry Into the Black Temple Travel to the Black Temple entrance area in Shadowmoon Valley and speak with Xi’ri.
3. A Distraction for Akama Accept the quest from Xi’ri. This is a scripted event. Stay near Akama and Maiev. Do not pull extra mobs. Watch the event play out (cutscene). Turn the quest in to Xi’ri.

Reward: You receive the Medallion of Karabor.

You are now attuned to Black Temple (if attunement is still required) and can enter the raid.

Tips for Efficiency

• Do as much of the Shadowmoon Valley + Arcatraz + Ata’mal Terrace chain as possible before Phase 3 launches.
• Coordinate with your guild so multiple people can get Seer Olum, Al’ar (with cowl), and Rage Winterchill on the same clears.
• Keep the Ashtongue Cowl and any temporary quest items in your bags.
• The final event with Xi’ri is safe as long as you stay with Akama and don’t aggro extra trash.
• Once you have the Medallion, you can upgrade it later to the Blessed Medallion of Karabor (teleport to the Black Temple gates).

You are now prepared to enter the Black Temple. The Betrayer awaits.
